The Bacteriology department has a gifted team of instructors (Robin Kurtz, Jon Roll, Michelle Rondon and myself) that teach the instructional laboratories and a few of the lectures in the Microbiology major. The courses in the major are taught on a rotational basis, and I teach Microbiology 303, Microbiology 304, Microbiology 527 and Microbiology 551 in various years.
I am also active in the scholarship of teaching, participating in seminars and presentations. Recently I won an engage grant to incorporate the use of a wiki in teaching our capstone course (Microbio 551) to encourage communication and collaboration between students. I have given several presentations and posters on this work, including a poster at the 2010 Presidents Summit on Teaching and Learning and a presentation at the 2010 Teaching and Learning Symposium run by the teaching academy.
